It was drizzling that late afternoon. I parked my car in one of the available slots near the main entrance of KCCC main building. I saw my friend puffing and standing between the doorway and a certain food stand. I ran off as fast as I can towards him. We talked and after I got my yosi break, we headed upstairs. We worked as gym instructors. So while waiting for the regulars coming in, I decided to stand in front of the glass wall facing the driveway of the entire KCCC Compound.
Five minutes later, my student came in. She was in her forties. I liked her because she knows how to listen and she trusted me. As I was giving her instructions, my co-trainer was talking to a guy at the receiving section. By the conversation, I can tell he had preliminary session with the instructor. I couldn’t see his face from where I stand because of the posters mounted on the glass door.
He walked in after several minutes. He was wearing glasses, cheeky smile and nice pair of teeth. He is good looking. As if everything was moving in slow motion. Slowly, he took off his glasses and laid it in his locker. He put the earphones and turned his iPod on. I could smell him from where I stand. Curiously and with so much anticipation on what he will do next, there I stood, stoned and mesmerized.
Suddenly I pulled the instructor outside the gym. I asked him about his new student, details about him. The hows, whys, whats, and whens. Where was I when he had his first session? I got little details though but I was satisfied. If I had asked my friend a little bit more, he would probably guessed that I am wearing rainbow in my forehead.
My admiration lasted for three weeks. I didn’t give much attention to it because at that time I had a girlfriend and I am dating some girl at the same time. Few years later, I met my crush again, I know a little bit of himself, deeper than skin deep. He was funny and smiley. He was talking to me. We ran each other at a common friend’s birthday bash. We exchanged few lines but no pick-up lines though.
As much as I want it to go further, friendship is the farthest place we can go. We are now both in a long term and serious relationship with somebody else. Sigh…..
